Welcome! Welcome, dearest friends, to His Encouragement: Biblical Inspiration for Your Thursday. Every week, I join a few blogging friends to bring you a Bible passage and a little hope-filled discussion. We pray that these devotionals help you end your week strong in God’s love and purpose for you.

Today’s Scripture

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28, ESV

Today I was reminded yet again of the merciful love and enduring patience of the Lord. The last few months have been a series of no’s, closed doors, and frustrations in a few crucial areas for our family. I cried out to the Lord: “Why, Lord? I don’t understand.”

And the Lord seemed to whisper back: “Be patient and wait, my child.”

Then, just in time, our prayers were answered… Not exactly how we thought they would but just what we needed. In short: a new-to-us vehicle big enough for three carseats, the fast and smooth birth of our third child two weeks early, and a policy change at work making me eligible for twelve weeks of paid maternity leave.

All things work together for good

There are times when life doesn’t seem to be going the way we think it should or how we plan it; however, His loving hand is always gently guiding those who have placed their trust in Him.

Often we cannot see beyond our immediate circumstances, but given a little more time and patience, we may discover that the Lord had better plans for us. Yes, we see that all things do work together for good!

Let us trust in the One who can take any situation, even the worst this sinful world can throw at us, and make something beautiful from it. (See Isaiah 61:1-3.)

Yet it may not happen right away. It may take days, weeks, months or even years for us to fully realize the Lord’s endgame.

Instead of focusing on everything that seems to be going wrong, let us look for the blessings and praise Him with grateful hearts.
