Today’s Encouragement

“Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.”
— Ephesians 6:18, NLT

If you read last week’s encouragement, then you know that my family is going through some challenging times. There is a saying: “When it rains, it pours.” That certainly seems to be the case in our situation. I will spare you the details but if we did not have our faith in the Lord, I am not sure how we would be getting through it.

It may be that you, too, are struggling. Perhaps, like us, it seems that one bad thing seems to be followed by another and another. There are some days and some situations which leave us feeling numb… emotionally and mentally worn out. You may not feel like reading God’s Word or praying, but it is times like this when that is exactly what we should be doing.

That is why I chose Ephesians 6:18 for today. It is the verse that immediately follows the more well-known Armor of God passage. Though I have read this verse many times, it seems to hold new meaning to me right now. “Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion.” Not just when everything is going well. We — I — need to pray even when everything seems to be falling to pieces, in our darkest and most challenging times, in our deepest pain and sorrow, and most especially when we do not feel like it.

Holy, Holy Is What the Angels Sing is one of my mom’s favorite hymns and mine, too. Over the last two weeks, I have sung it to her quite a few times. May you find the words hope-filled no matter what you are going through. The line that touches me right now is: “For they sing about great trials, battles fought and victories won. And they praise their Great Redeemer who has said to them ‘Well done’.”

Ephesians 6:18 says Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion...

Now it is your turn! How does today’s verse encourage you? What verse or passage is blessing you today?
