Today’s Encouragement

When people’s steps follow the LordGod is pleased with their ways. If they stumble, they will not fall, because the Lord holds their hand.

— Psalm 37:23-24, NCV

This week has been very challenging with a slew of projects and deadlines at work, two sick toddlers at home, and sad news about some of our loved ones who are battling health crisis.

Last night, I fell asleep directly after dinner while sitting upright on the couch, my chin on my hand and my elbow propped up on a pillow. My husband says I was asleep like that for over an hour even though the boys were playing noisily on the floor. I am exhausted, physically and emotionally. I desperately needed something consoling and heartening.

So today I am sharing Psalm 37:23-24. I chose the New Century Version in particular because of the beautiful translation of the last part: “If they stumble, they will not fall, because the Lord holds their hand.”

It is comforting to know that no matter what you are going through, the Lord will always be there for us… like a loving Parent holding on to their child’s hand.

We cannot overlook the importance of verse 23 as it sets up the promise: “When people’s steps follow the LordGod is pleased with their ways.”

We do need to submit daily to the Lord’s will. Jesus Himself said: “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24). By doing so, we allow the Holy Spirit to continue to work in our hearts to transform us from sinful people to a beautiful reflection of Christ’s loving character. (2 Corinthians 3:18; Philippians 1:6)

And no matter if we stumble— because we are fragile humans, and we will stumble — the Lord will be at our side, holding our hand, comforting us, and guiding us.

I needed this simple word of encouragement, and I hope it brings you comfort as well.
